about

When Alewife founders, Mitch McNeil and Colin Toline, first fired up this project, it was glaringly apparent that chief among their infrastructural shortcomings was a long term lack of a vocalist (Beverly was almost 25 years into the future!). With that in mind, they dove wholeheartedly into the deep end of the surf genre, already steeped by osmosis in the works of Dick Dale and The Ventures, they broadened their search away from the purist retro-strains to the stylings of The Mermen, Man or Astro-Man?, and Southern Culture on the Skids – leavened with Z-grade movie soundtrack inspiration, a pinch of trash TV spice ... and here we are!

The duo was helped mightily along the way by the thundering drums of Ben Rosene and Miguel Gonzalez, some tasty guitar additions of Tim M, and the always-percolating percussion of Alex Haussmann. Surf is most definitely UP.

Dedicated to our dearly-departed HIGH C, whose bass reigns supreme throughout this collection.

about

Alewife Oak Park, Illinois

Renowned for their fermented blend of surf/latin/exotica, with a pinch of spice from around this vast global milieu. Heavily extraterrestrial by way of the equator. Music of the jungle. Music of the desert. Music from space.
