El Divorcio 03:36

Here’s our salute to Colin Toline. We’ve banded together to make music together. So each of us plugged in and turned on at home — sending the parts around until the songs took shape. Happy birthday, High C. There’s never been an Alewife record without you. You’re here with us still. We're just making the most of a situation where there are hurdles in all directions, and a few DO NOT ENTER signs to boot. Cue the colored, twinkly lights and lava lamps. We give you, THE QUARANTIKI TAPES, direct from the underground.

It has been 6 months since we had played live together. After the world came to a grinding halt a year ago, it became obvious that live music might not happen for some time – but we snuck a couple outdoor shows in last September. (sidewalk buskers?) The big picture situation was initially depressing, but ultimately unifying for us: to provide some psychedelic version of an alternate take on the live experience was at first frightening… but it became an opportunity to look this passage of time directly in the eyes. We wanted to create something that felt like more than just a replacement for what we'd normally be doing. We wanted to be a band who tried to make something positive in an extremely trying time ... rise up and go beyond. These sessions proved to be a collectively individual effort to support the larger concept of music and human connectivity.

There was also some kind of primal instinct of how to make something happen with these 5 new/old tunes. The recorded result leads us down avenues we hadn’t been to in rehearsal. It's both alarming and electrifying to listen to these. Onward!

Alewife Oak Park, Illinois

Renowned for their fermented blend of surf/latin/exotica, with a pinch of spice from around this vast global milieu. Heavily extraterrestrial by way of the equator. Music of the jungle. Music of the desert. Music from space.
