Every summer members of Alewife and their extended musical family gather on the shores of Lake Michigan, 200+ miles North and East of their Chicago haunts, to frolic in the big waves and sunny beaches, guitars and drumsticks in hand. With little time to rehearse, they stage a rather impromptu musical event as schedules permit, relying on a shared database/memory of music from the past five or six decades to fall back on. A two+ hour set devoted to Grateful Dead music is but one of their iterations. A passion? A guilty pleasure? A chance to jam in front of an ecstatic up north audience of cosmic thrill seekers? All of the above.
